Knowledge is Power

What do you know?
Well....

With all the rain we've been having lately, the 'Aina (land) is saturated to the point of giving way.

Mudslides and flooding are typical winter problems here.
This is a mudslide that happened in Kailua-Kona.

It's always good to have a survival kit and insurance.  We have stocked plenty of water, food and we have a generator just in case.  As it happened, the electricity went off for a couple of hours during the storms and the generator came in real handy.  We watched TV!

Gas prices are high, but that's the same everywhere.  In San Francisco, the gas prices are almost $4.00 a gallon.  This is the highest prices I could find here on Hawai'i Island and this is in Kea'au where the prices are usually lower than Hilo!!

The cruise ships bringing in tourist are aware of the stormy weather, but nobody seems to care much.  This is a picture of the front entrance to the Kūhio Bay docks where the ships arrive.

A Satellite view of Kūhio Bay with Cruise ship.

You can see the swimming pool on the deck of the cruise ship!  Passengers get their choice of what they want to spend their time while in Hilo.  Most like to visit Volcano's National Park and others just explore the area.

The thick clouds have been giving us steady rain for the past few days, but things are starting to clear out.  While waiting for the rain to pass, let's play a game.

From our friends at Red Planet Cartoons.
The story of the week.

NBC - One of the major three broadcast stations, had refused to air ads payed for by the nonprofit group Freedom's Watch claiming the ads are controversial because it encourages political action and other activities.

Click here and here to see the ads that NBC won't air.

The ads are a simple Thank You to the members of the military and to remember them through the holidays.
NBC also objected to using images including military uniforms and vehicles and asked for proof of government approval for the group's use of the images in its ads.

HUH??!!??

What NBC is saying is, "We don't Support the Troops".  A liberal lawyer for NBC claimed the group Freedom's Watch needed to remove their website from their ad.  No reason was given why the website was a problem.  Since then, NBC has done an about face and has decided to air the ads.

Some advice for you at NBC, you're not winning the hearts and minds of American TV viewers.  Your sagging ratings should tell you something.  It's a shame because there are several shows on NBC I really like.  Your Nightly News and MSNBC sister channel is indescribably bias, and yet you don't seem to notice the lack of any real audience.  No wonder why you're struggling for ratings.  Take a clue from FOX News and be Fair and Balanced.  Report the News and leave the bloviating to the opinion spinners.

Global Warming Update

Here's more news coming from our friends from the Land Down Under.  A WEST Australian medical expert wants families to pay a $5000-plus "baby levy" at birth and an annual carbon tax of up to $800 a child.

Professor Walters, clinical associate professor of obstetric medicine at the University of Western Australia and the King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth, called for condoms and "greenhouse-friendly" services such as sterilization procedures to earn carbon credits.

"Every newborn baby in Australia represents a potent source of greenhouse gas emissions for an average of 80 years, not simply by breathing but by the profligate consumption of resources typical of our society," he wrote.

How stupid can you get?  First, Carbon Dioxide is not a pollutant.

What are they going to do, regulate breathing?

Meanwhile, back in the real world, rainbows are presenting clearing skies.
Our storms haven't been as bad as the storms over the mainland USA.

I remember when we had to shovel global warming off our driveway when we lived in New Jersey.
Speaking of New Jersey....,

We were driving around downtown when we came upon this van with Jersey license plates!

And the rainbows just keep on coming.

As the sun sets on another day in paradise and the rain clouds open away to blue skies, I have to ask the question...,
