Why do birds fly into windows? I took this picture because of the interesting effect it caused. It's not a double exposure or any other trick photography. I'm looking into the glass window to my workshop. The reflection shows the house behind me and the white square is the window on the other side of the workshop. If you look carefully, you can see the lawn chair, the workshop table and other items inside the workshop. The picture is an natural illusion.   more »

On the morning of October 15th, 2006, at 7:07AM HST, two earthquakes hit the Big Island. The largest and first quake registering a magnitude 6.7 on the Richter scale, seven minutes later a second 6.0 quake rattled the island.   more »

This is the 14th year the Ho'olaule'a has been held in Hilo. Ho'olaule'a, which means a gathering festival of celebration, had three stages hosting a variety of bands. It turned out to be a rainy day for the event. From a steady drizzle to the occasional downpour, that didn't dampen the spirits of folks that came to listen to the music and dine on the food. The event was sponsored by KWXX 94.7 FM a local radio station in downtown Hilo.   more »
