Welina mai na heluhelu ka blog (Greetings readers of my blog). Now that we are in the beginning of our second year here on Moku o Keawe (Island of Hawai'i), it time to reflect on the first year. Of all the islands here in the Great State of Hawai'i, none are better than the the Big Island, also known as Hawai'i and Moku o Keawe. Here in the eastern side of the island, just south of the city of Hilo in a little town called Kea'au in the subdivision of Orchidland stands our little home. Hawaiian's have long names for things and they usually discribe something. Like this name, Kealohapoina'oleohelemanu, which means "the unforgettable love of the traveling bird".    more »

Over last weekend, everyone knows by now, the earthquake happened. However, on Monday, we had a serious thunderstorm. Hekili is the Hawaiian word for thunder and we had a lot of lighting, thunder and rain. It was caused by a cold front that started on the northern most part of the state and traveled down through the island chain. It caused power outages and flooding. We had some erosion on the roads, but our property was not effected by the rain. All together we probably got 7 inches of rain over a 24 hour period.    more »

Aloha mai, Guess what this is? It's our new Post Office Box! That's right after a year wait, we finally got a P.O. Box ! Yippee! This is in the post office in Kea'au. We opted not to have a box on the side of the road like some of the other boxes. You can have box either in the post office or on the boxes in along side of the streets in the subdivisions. We heard about people breaking into P.O. Boxes along the street, so we decided not to go that route.    more »
